Spring is here!
Dicentra -Bleeding Heart
It must be spring! The Forsythias are blooming! Come in and see our new variety called 'Show Off'. The flowers are deep golden yellow and are twice as big as the average forsythia. We also have little dwarf ones that will only get 2 to 3 ft high. Perennials are here and are beginning to burst forth. Ahh, what a wonderful time of year. Check out our rose list of 2008. We will have a GREAT selection of shrub roses which are very disease resistant. I have been testing some out in our yard. My favorites which have had NO disease problems for the last two years are Palmengarten Frankfurt and Lady Elsie May. They were in constant flower all summer long. Click here for our selection of ROSES. New plants will be coming in very soon. We have a new supplier of small ornamental trees which will be very fun such as: Harry Lauders Walking Stick on a Standard Lilac Dappled Dawn Tree Form Lilac Juliana 'Hers' Tree Form Siberian Pea Shrub Pendula on a Standard Hakura Nishiki Tree Form These are wonderful small trees for small places. We've been drooling over all the great varieties of Rhododendron that we will be having this spring. Check out our list. Click here for our selection of RHODODENDRON. Ready to fertilize your lawn? If you live in Allegan or Ottawa counties, think about using a no phosphorous fertilizer. Both counties have ordinances now on the books prohibiting the use of phosphorous lawn fertilizers. Most soils in this area have enough phosphorous so it's really not necessary to add more to your lawn. Phosphorous induces algae growth and takes oxygen out of lakes and streams. So be environmentally aware and do the right thing. We do have the following Zero Phosphorous fertilizers: Scott's Pro Lawn Fertilizer, Scott's Pro Weed and Feed, Greenview Fairway Fertilizer and Espoma's Turftone (a great organic choice!). Lots of our customers are moaning and groaning about the deer browsing in their yards. We are still getting great feedback about DeerVik. Maybe you should give it a try, too. Don't forget we have the perfect gift for your gift giving..... Gift Certificates in any amount, with NO expiration date. If you are going to put grub control on your lawn, be sure you put the right product on at the right time. Right now the adult grubs are in the soil. Use Sevin, Eight, or Dylox until the middle of May. (Do not use Bayer All Season Grub Control now. It treats the young grubs which haven't hatched out yet.) The adult grubs stop feeding around the middle of May so they won't do any more damage until the babies hatch out in July. That is the time to use the Bayer All Season Grub Control and you will successfully kill the babies at that time. Email us at huntreenursery@gmail.com
